Start a Business and Get Some Structure Somewhere

When you work for someone else they have their procedures and protocols, many systems, and probably forms, etc. that are just there for you. All you need to do is be trained on how to use them if they are applicable to your job duties. When you start your own online business you have to come up with these things yourself. Not all at once necessarily but as you go.

have a plan

This is one very good reason to join up with another entity like an affiliate program at least until you see what is going on and what all is involved with having an online business. What is the bare minimum structure that you need to start? You will have some idea the day you join a program and get orientated to the program.

In addition to the formal training that will be available either online or in a video or webinar, there are many other places that you can check if you are really interested in what all is involved. It is a real good idea to find the ‘FAQs’ or any other documentation that is available to members so you can learn as much as can. Remember that what you learn in this first endeavor will serve you going forward as well no matter where you end up.

Particularly wonderful are those programs that just do it all for you and map it out so you know where everything is and how to use it. Some of them are really amazing in all that they give, but then they probably understand nobody would do anything if someone doesn’t do everything for them. Hopefully at least the members will take advantage of what is provided at the very least. That would be if they are actually seriously trying to learn how to start a business.

So many people really think of anything online as instant or magical like booting up your PC and ending up at Google! They really have the expectation that they don’t really need to do much in order to start earning money and to become fabulously wealthy. It’s really sad when they realize they are not thinking at all logically for some reason. Maybe ‘wishful thinking’.

Even when the program actually does do an extreme number of things to help you get started in your business, as mentioned above, there are still going to be things that you need to do to participate and to keep your business alive. Make sure you understand that and be ready to jump in anytime!

Willing to Sacrifice to Start a Home Business?

This is a big question because the sacrifices you may be required to make may cover a lot of your life. For example are you willing to sacrifice your free time? Are you willing to sacrifice your spare change? It would be nice if these sacrifices would show a direct benefit immediately. However in most cases if you are new to Internet Marketing, it may take you a while to see anything in return for your sacrifice.

it's worth it

Pretty much anybody who ever tried to do anything significant has had to sacrifice something in order to get it. Very few things are ever delivered ‘on a silver platter’. However sometimes if you think ahead and have a long-range plan, you might mitigate the sense of having to give up something to get what you want.

This can be as simple as squirreling away $5 a week. That is less than or equal to one lunch out or one fancy coffee, and it adds up to more than $200 in one year. If your situation is such that all you can spare without noticing is $1-$2, then do that instead. The point is to save some money so that you have something to operate with when you start a business.

Contrary to the usual belief, it is very inexpensive to stat and run a business on the Internet. Particularly if you compare it to an offline business, you will see you are spending pennies on the dollar in comparison. Probably if people didn’t believe that ‘you have to have money to make money’ which may or not be more or less true, you can start an online business for next to nothing if necessary.

Surely as with all things, if you have at least a little money to work with things can be considerably easier for you. If you can learn how to do things yourself you can save some of your operating money. Then as you progress you could certainly delegate those tasks to someone or something that can save you some time and effort.

The truth is though if you are enjoying what you are doing and are really enthusiastic about having your own business, you won’t see it as so much toil and trouble. Work can be fun and like anything else it is all about how you look at it. So in addition to a plan and some time to build a foundation before you even start, you might want to take some time to build your mindset in a productive direction.

What Did You Want to be When You Grew Up?

Like most kids, you probably wanted to be something different every year. Then there were those few that were really ‘called’ to be something. The discipline required may have had to start at a very young age to accomplish that goal by adulthood.

grow up more

Unfortunately with most of the dreams being unachievable for one reason or another, few of us are what we envisioned becoming. Thankfully this has not left a lasting scar or feeling of failure as we have forgotten or just lost interest. Many of us are satisfied at least to a degree with what we ended up doing.

On the other hand, maybe doing ‘whatever’ is not that satisfying. Whether it is conscious or sub-conscious we may be bored and feeling ‘under-utilized’. We may secretly still dream of doing more than we are right now. With most of us we are more or less stuck, degrees or not, with whatever jobs we are able to get and are making due with the amount of money we can earn.

The so-called ‘American Dream’ has degenerated so far at this point that we are just thankful to have any job at all. If we need two jobs to make ends meet then that is what we have to do. It’s really been a rude awakening for some to realize they are not entitled and everything would not come to them on a ‘silver platter’.

Again, degrees or not, we have to work to earn a living. Sometimes how hard we work determines how much income we have – in other cases it doesn’t seem to matter. We have to take what we can get to survive. We don’t want to make waves unless we are ready to deal with the possible results of starting a confrontation. There are plenty of places in life that you ‘just can’t win’.

There is however a way that we can improve our lot and that is to start a home business part-time. We would keep our day jobs for as long as possible and continue to do as well as we can. If we don’t see any way out of it or around it, then starting something on our own may not only be advantageous, it can be downright empowering. YOU are taking control of YOUR situation.

All you need is a real desire and to be motivated to do some extra work to get it set up. You will also need a decent computer and a good Internet connection. You can be running your own business in no time at all. Unless you know exactly what you want to do and already have a product or service and a website, then you might want to start out with the ‘path of least resistance’. That would be something like joining an Internet affiliate marketing program or being an independent distributor.

Just go to a search engine and run a query for either and you will see all of the available opportunities. When you research them you will find that you can start this kind of business practically for nothing – and then go on to build your own empire once you learn the ropes!

A Million Ideas for a Home Business

The possibilities are endless. Of course with that said some of the ideas we have may not be possible at least at this time, due to many different reasons. However if we stick to realistic, reasonable goals and within those parameters do some brainstorming, we might come up with ideas we didn’t even know we had!

brain storm ideas!

One way to get started is to make a few lists. Start with your skills. What have you done at each job you have had? First use – broad categories but then outline the details so that you know what it involved. What training and/or education have you had?

On the next list, detail your interests. What do you enjoy doing? What do you consider your hobbies? What would you like to do if you had the time or money? What have you always wanted to learn more about or to experience such as travel to a specific place or taking a Thai cooking class.

Now we want to go back to each list and think of ways we could use our skills and/or interests to create a business at home. For example you see you have experience with customer service, bookkeeping, word processing, or other office skills. These would make a perfect service business. Many people that have small businesses do not have these skills and need them so they will pay to have them done.

For example most Internet home businesses need writing – for blogs, advertisements, marketing (emails) etc. If you have a flair for writing and you have good grammar and can type decently you could earn money writing for people. There are just a few facts you need to gather in order to know how and what to write for them.

You are not confined to only office services. You can almost instantly become an affiliate marketer and earn commissions if you like sales and marketing. If you find in your skills and/or interest lists that you love arts and crafts, then you can create a gift business using those skills. You can create gift baskets to sell on the holidays or year round that include things you have made from food to ceramics to soap and candles.

Any business including Internet businesses will at some point involve marketing and advertising to get customers or sales. This can be from any perspective – it could be what you do as your service business for others. However what I am referring to here is the fact that you will need to promote your own business and so the first thing you should write are your own advertisements.

If you don’t have a website and do not know how to create one, you are like the vast majority of people including home business owners. It is a very simple matter to set up a blog account and use the pre-formatted themes that they give you free, to create a different ad space. Add some pages with your services and your costs, a free Paypal button and you have a good start.

However no one will see your website unless you promote it and this is where you will need to learn some basic skills with regard to Internet marketing. There are a number of inexpensive services that others can provide for you to get you started. Once you see what is going on you may be able to do everything yourself for free!

HomeBiz 101: Change is Necessary – Run With it

It is often just the way it is and there is nothing we can do except to make the appropriate adjustments . Constant change is one reason you should consider becoming organized. You should know where things are and how to access them so that you can ‘go with the flow’ rather than to get all disoriented when there is a change.

You should make a list of the necessary components of your business. That would include your website hosting and domain name. Who is the merchant you do business with? What are the contact numbers? What is your account number. When are your payments due? How do you pay them? Any interruption in service to either of these will bring your website down (no sales) until you fix the problem.

As well you need to keep track of your autoresponder service. When are the payments due? How do you pay them? If you have an interruption here, you are losing your new prospects who are unable to connect with your service. You want in all cases mentioned above to be sure the merchants have the current bank account information or the payments may be refused.

You should also consider your streams of income – your affiliate or other programs. Know how to contact them and be sure they have current bank information so there is no interruption in your membership where you might lose sales.

For whatever reason any of these things could change themselves. A company could change their terms and you find them unacceptable so you want to cancel. The company has new owners or management and you don’t like them. A company stops doing business in your area. Even what if you have a dispute with them about money you feel they owe you.

Change can be initiated from any direction. Even by you. If you are on top of your situation with everything then it will make it easier for you to determine if you need to change something. For example if you have on your list the cost of each service. You may see an ad one day that offers the same service for half the cost.
This would be a good reason to make a change. (be sure not to be ‘penny wise and pound foolish’ – don’t compromise quality to save a few bucks.)

Another BIG change that can be quite shocking and difficult to recover from if you are not prepared is a computer crash. ALWAYS be sure to back up your data every week or month. That way if your entire memory is wiped out, you have a starting point that has your latest information to build back up from. Most of the applications and programs are on your installation disks so don’t worry about them so much – just your documents and any work you may have done.
