My Most Powerful Email Ever

Here’s a story as told to me by a fellow online marketer:

There was a time, back in the 90’s, when some of us were doing something called “fax blasting.”

This was similar to email marketing, in that we were sending out faxes via a service to people who had expressed interest in our niche.

And frankly, we made very good money using this method.

Obviously it wouldn’t work today, but there was one lesson I learned via fax blasting that I’ve never forgotten.

I was working one of those multi-level programs that were so popular then.

I’d send out a blast of 1,000 faxes, and recruit several people into the program without even talking to them. Yes, it was that easy, if you had the right copy.

I would then continue to keep them updated via fax or email, their choice.

And there was one message I sent out that got more response than all of my other messages combined.

In fact, I was frankly shocked at the response. People referred to that message on personal calls, conference calls, in emails and so forth.

Quite simply, it resonated like nothing else I ever sent.

So what was the message? It was simply me rambling on a bit about my typical working day: When I got up; when, where and how I worked; when I finally got to bed and a couple of amusing but personal anecdotes.

It was something I dashed off without much thought, yet it was the message that everyone wanted to hear.

Why? Because it was personal stuff about me.

I was their upline. And in marketing, people like to buy people, not things. If you think about it, there are probably a dozen or maybe a hundred other people selling the same or nearly the same things you’re selling.

Yet your customers buy from you. Why? Because they like YOU. Maybe they like the way you write, or talk, or the look of you… I don’t know. But I do know there is something about you that they relate to.

So next time you send out an email or write a blogpost, put a little bit of YOU into it, and see what happens.

And make that a pattern, always offering a little insight into the mystery that is you.

While it will never be your main message, it will go a long way to bridging the distance between you, your customers and making sales.

Use the Power of Search Engines

Search engines (SE) can either make or break your Internet business. You want to do as much as you can to optimize your website and advertising to take advantage of the benefits that the search engines can provide. You also want to take care not to do anything to get on their bad side.

get on board
You have probably heard the saying that ‘content is king’. That means that it is not some technical mumbo-jumbo that you need to learn. You need to provide a steady stream of good, original content (information) for your website visitors. This is what search engines call ‘value’. If you want the SEs to send traffic to your site, be sure that your site has ‘value’.

Even more accurately the saying should be ‘fresh content is king’. When the SE robots ‘crawl’ your site they are looking for new information. Initially when your site was built it was indexed according to the content, keywords, etc. Then they will check back every 30 days or so. If the robots do not detect any new changes, they will just turn around and exit, leaving you at the same place in the index as you were originally.

You should strive to keep your link on the first few pages of their search results. When people go to a search engine and search for your keywords they will see your link, click it and visit your site. (this is what is referred to as ‘free, organic traffic’).

The easiest and most efficient way to make sure you always have fresh content, is to either build the website on a blog platform (like WordPress), add a blog to the website as a page, or even as remote as a ‘backlink’. (a blog on a separate site that you can link to). This is much more simple than to try to change the site code, ads, images, etc. each month to create ‘fresh’ content. Back in the day that is what people had to do to stay fresh! So there was no getting away with having some knowledge of HTML code which can get complicated especially if you are new, or expensive if you have to pay someone to do it for you.

If you are at a social network, business forum or article marketing site, use your domain name in your signature (and hyperlink it) to create a link from there, back to your site. In the SEO world (search engine optimization) your focus as part of promoting your business should be to build hundreds of back-links over time. This is indicative that you are actively engaged in your business, rather than just some website that sits on the Internet collecting dust.

Got Writer’s Block? Blogging for Internet Marketing

Writer’s block is probably more about a lack of ideas to write about than the actual inability to write. When someone is new and they can’t really determine how successful they have been yet, some people will feel they have nothing to say or that they could swear is true since they haven’t had the experience. These are just temporary obstacles if a person really wants to write.

write ON!
Marketers NEED to be able to write – no matter what. No excuses unless you can afford to pay for Ghostwriters, Blogging is the primary FREE way to promote a domain, website or business. This is not just a ‘file and forget’ fact. To do so would be to waste a valuable strategy that would create an opportunity to have your site(s) indexed by the search engines and get free traffic.

We must force ourselves to write, and it is not only blogging, but writing ads, communicating with our prospects, customers, and peers; trying to convey an issue to a technical or customer service agent when we have a problem or question, and participating in social networks and forums.

Most people starting out in Internet Marketing don’t have a lot of money to spend at first, maybe even for the first several months when you are not yet generating a substantial income. This is one of the reasons that you need to just do it! Sit down and start writing. Write anything.

Pretend you are writing a letter to a friend if that helps.
You do want to write as if you are open and relaxed as you would with a friend. Nobody needs to create a text book or technical specifications here, just be able to clearly convey an idea or concept – even an opinion works. Of course in some cases especially on the technical side, being able to quote statistics and citing specifications is more powerful than just your opinion.

Try to be conscientious of correct spelling and grammar, which only requires proofreading and being as accurate as possible. Very quick and easy to look up a few words on a search engine if you are not sure how it is spelled or what it means.

Most Wordprocessors have spell check so that should help too. (however they are not advanced enough to recognize some things such as words that are spelled correctly but used in the wrong context – for example – ‘Right me a letter’ should be ‘Write me a letter). Just take a few minutes to browse through what you have written before you publish it. Doesn’t need to be perfect, just close!

You can write about what you are learning, and/or your opinion of things that you read. Reading is an excellent way to get ideas for what to write about. Never copy word for word, but you can just rewrite anything in your own words.

Be honest if you have not yet experienced something first-hand or earned a substantial amount of money from it – There is nothing wrong with quoting people who have, as long as you are truthful and give credit to the author. Use “quote” marks to indicate you are quoting, not composing, to make this acceptable. There are tools that people use to check if their writing is being copied by someone else without their permission or not giving credit to the original author, so beware. Write ON!

Things to Consider When Designing a Business Opportunity Website

Although there may be some important things to consider if you are designing a business opportunity website, the main focus should be to attract search engines so they will direct traffic to your site. It is also highly relevant to attract prospects that may become customers.

biz op site
With regard to search engines, it is actually best to focus on one niche at least per page if not the entire site. You want to make it easy for your site to be added to their index. That index is very important to any business because this is where people will find the links they have queried.

A swipe file that has a good list of keywords that you can use to help you in creating your content (information and advertising, etc.) is very helpful for defining your focus. “Targeted traffic” is the best kind of traffic as it zones in on your keywords (niche). Targeted traffic focuses on what you have to offer.

One of the main tasks for creating either content or a business opportunity website is keyword research. This is a very important and should not be overlooked. To do this you would take the obvious ‘root’ words that you know of that refer to your business, such as ‘home business’, ‘business opportunity’, ‘affiliate marketing’ and etc., to start with. There are various keyword research tools that you can use online and you can see how to build ‘more keywords from these root words to build your list of keywords.

For example phrases like ‘online home business ideas’, ‘money-making affiliate programs’, ‘best online business opportunity’, use those root keywords and show you a variety of ways to use them in your writing content and advertising. These phrases are referred to as ‘long tail keywords’ in SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

You can use those root words in different ways so that your content doesn’t sound boring or spammy (repeating the same phrase over and over again). With just little twists you can keep your writing interesting (and not get slapped for spamming keywords); and you can actually rank for multiple keywords in the same document.

With some of the better keyword research tools, they will show you more ways those root words are used and how many sites are using them in various formats. You can focus on using the root words in a way that fewer of your competitors are using them so there is less competition for that word or phrase. For example you see that 1000 websites use ‘home business ideas’ but only 500 use ‘ideas for a home business’. See how your chances may be improved with the tiny twist?

If you build your website to include a blog or at least to have a blog that is linked to your website, this makes it much easier to submit ‘fresh content’ to your website. This is an important factor as search engines like ‘fresh’. It is much easier to add a blog post than to try to keep redesigning a static HTML website your site has something ‘different’ that the search engines will re-index. As well, with a blog you can easily add meta “tags”, on the fly for each one of your posts rather than the old-school tedious HTML code.

To have a strong foundation for your business opportunity website or content, you just need to focus on welcoming your human traffic (prospects). For them the site should be easy to navigate with organized menus and site maps so that they can find exactly what they are looking for – ideally in multiple ways, without getting lost in the process.

How to Create Compelling Content for your Home Business Blog

Your content should have useful information, you don’t want to create a text bookish atmosphere that will bore people. Without sounding academic, there are many ways you can present value — information that people need or at least will enjoy. Just imagine you are writing to a friend so that you can project a warm atmosphere.

write on!

Experts on writing teach that if you don’t catch someone’s attention right off that you will lose them – they won’t stick around to read the rest of the article. Hence, you should use exciting words, especially in your subject or title to grab the reader’s attention. You want to attract the reader and then hold their attention. This is sometimes referred to as ’emotional writing’.

Emotional writing can be seen as dramatic or compelling. It is a good idea to do some keyword research and make a ‘swipe file’ with words that are both key to your articles subjects and exciting. In advertising and sales, there are many ways in which this works — using time constraints: ‘this is your last chance’, ‘don’t miss out’. Scarcity: ‘last 5 in stock’ the ‘next 8 callers only’; Excitement: ‘must have’, ‘secret tips’, ‘top of the line’, ‘unbeatable’, ‘latest discovery’, ‘truly great’, ‘the best’, ‘fantastic’, ‘wonderful’, and ‘awesome’.

Especially if you are promoting something technical, but effective in any case, is giving proof of what you say. This would work very effectively for instance if you can quote a study or survey that has been done that will back up your claim, (give them a link); or income testimonials. Quoting statistics is not really very effective unless you provide the source of your statistics or claims. They can help you to create an interesting article.

You shouldn’t necessarily focus your writing on selling unless you are creating a sales page. For the purposes of ‘content’ you always want to keep it purely conversational and interesting. Try to present the information without pushing it.

One last example of how to keep it exciting: describe some condition that needs to be fixed, or a substance that can do something factually. Discreetly at the end add a paragraph describing how your product or service is what they need and include your link. This is easier to use if you are selling a product. For example an article about some human condition like dry skin or dandruff. Then you provide the remedy or solution.

This can apply to home business opportunities, as well. For instance the condition being ‘paycheck is insufficient’, or ‘hate your job?’ Starting a home business can be the solution to either one or both conditions and with just a little creativity you can turn that into a good article!

There are Endless Possibilities for Starting a Home Business Online

Going to work at a day job and dealing with the rat race was never easy. Severing ties with the boss and favorite co-workers is not exactly fun when you finally take action to leave. Probably when someone makes a decision to change their life, foremost are the financial decisions.

more money

We need to know which is the better deal, considering all things. There is the actual take home income, the benefits such as health insurance and retirement plan, commute time, etc. We really have to weigh our decision to stay or go carefully as there is so much at stake. You can hardly ever change your mind and go back. It may be best to analyze the situation and don’t say anything until after you have determined which is best for you.

If you are thinking about starting up a home business to replace your job, well, it’s not always easy to begin with. Starting a real Home Business online takes determination, self-discipline, and a desire to succeed. If we do not have any income to tide us over until we get the new business going, we are really in a precarious situation. The ideal situation is to start developing your home business in your spare time and have at least a foundation when you quit your job.

One of the most important things would be to determine what type of work is most suitable to your current skills and interests. There are many different businesses that you can start. Blogging (writing) is a skill and affiliate marketing is an industry that is a very popular way to earn income online from home for two examples.

Most people already blog and have a good idea about the basics. All they need to do is find a niche and concentrate on it while blogging. Very helpful if it is tied in some way to whatever business you want to have. Once you have chosen your niche, then you just need to set up a blog and ideally also a website that is closely related.

If for example you are a person that is interested in fashion, you could set up a fashion blog, create interesting posts and then place affiliate links to certain retailers and particular products on your blog to ‘monetize’ it. It is very wise to choose a niche where there is interest for you as well as the public (prospects). The niche should be popular so people will look for it rather than you chasing them down to convince them they want or need it. Blogging and linking to products that are seldom used can lead to a low success rate.

Whatever you decide on, starting a real (profitable) Home Business is an endeavor with endless possibilities and limitless opportunities. You probably want to take it slowly and sensibly and build up slowly so as to avoid as much risk as possible.

The Importance of Blogging for an Online Home Business

If you have a blog associated with your home business you should be using it frequently – daily if possible or close as you can get. If you do not have a blog associated with your business, get one today.

write on
It is a powerful, FREE way to get free traffic that may become sales or leads (your list). If you can’t even do this much to promote your business, with all due respect, you may not be serious or committed enough to ever succeed with your online business.

Maybe this is the issue and the juncture where you should make a decision. You want a business, or not really that much. Hopefully it won’t be the case here, but maybe you should just quit while you are ahead if it doesn’t mean enough even to do something for free to promote your business.’ It will still require time and effort to compose blogs unless you can pay a ‘ghostwriter’ or have some other blog service.

This should be pretty telling to ask yourself if you really want a business or would you rather go out to lunch? On the one hand you are building and developing something that will pay you back someday if you play your cards right and invest your time and effort for an extended period. On the other hand, if you can afford to go out to lunch then you can afford to get your business running but only if you really want to.

You can set up a blog at blogspot.com absolutely free. It is just basic but it will work to get traffic to your website. (Use your domain name URL to your website or affiliate link as part of your signature on each article). The search engines will help you to build back-links to and from the blog or website.

Or if you don’t mind spending a few dollars to buy a domain and hosting you can also set up a free WordPress account and have a blog there. With WordPress you can actually create a top-level website on your domain and then add WordPress (*blog) using a simple utility in your hosting account cPanel.

The cost for both domain and hosting is minimal – the cost of doing lunch out – once a year for the domain name registration and once a month for the hosting cost.

Even though it seems like the majority of people trying to start a home business cry broke, almost everybody has a few dollars they can spare themselves to build some kind of an operating budget if they have the right priorities. You will be the only one that will regret it if you make the wrong choices.

How to Write an Article for Your Home Business Blog

Believe it or not even if you don’t think you have any writing skills – can you hold a conversation? Yes you mostly can. Writing is just like having a one-way conversation. Nobody there to answer but you can. It is pretty sure you can write an email as well. So you take these avenues and consider that YOU CAN write.

Say it Right
Just think of any issue you may have had, positive or negative with your business. Use that as an idea to start and then just keep the conversation going. What happened? Did it work well? What didn’t work about it? What did you learn from it? You may want to provide the solution you found either way.

Another excellent thing to remember is ‘writer’s block’ is usually idea block – you just need to find an idea and write something. You will keep flowing the longer you add information. Although whatever is on your mind and in your daily life is probably a great place to find ideas to write about, using keywords is also automatically going to get you started.

Keywords are words or phrases that are relevant to your niche or business industry. In the case of “Home Business” for example you can create “long-tail keywords” like ‘home business online” or ‘home business ideas” – also in this family are ‘working at home’, ‘making money at home’ and many more.

You should create a swipe file so you can just open it up each day and pick a topic to write about. Use the keyword or keyword phrase in your subject or topic and use it a few times in your content. Do not use it more than a few times in each article, as it will have the opposite effect you are hoping for.

Use it only within the natural flow of your content. If the search engines consider you to be a ‘keyword spammer’ they will not index your site as they would if you had content with value.

Here is an example of keyword spam: ‘My home business is a home business that will succeed. I work my home business every day, If you want your home business to work out you need to work your home business every day’, Horrible right?

This same information provided by someone who is not a spammer: ‘My home business is an online business that will succeed. I try to make sure at the very least every day that all my links are working properly’. Not so bad. Keyword used in title and one time in content. You can also consider ‘online business’ to be a keyword phrase that may rank from this article.

Business is Totally About Marketing and Advertising

Particularly with online business there seems to be an image of people who sign up for a program or two and spend a few hours max seeing what is going on there. They may read some of the documentation, and/or watch a video – sort of just ‘kick the tires’. Hopefully they bookmark their affiliate link for the program. Then that’s it.

show it

They don’t seem to grasp the fact that nothing is going to happen now unless they do something with everything that has been provided to them. It can’t just sit there on their PC and in their member back office. The next step is definitely to find out what some effective methods are to market and advertise the link and use the other graphics and images that may have been provided.

This can range from suggestions and/or resources from the company that may include autoresponders (eMail marketing), list builders, safelists, solo ads, etc. You may already know blogging and article marketing in forums and social networks are powerful free strategies to get your links exposed in a discreet way without being a blatant spammer. (Tell a story – provide some value and then approach them with your link).

It can also include any other ideas that you may have (note: ‘ideas’ how good are they? How old are they? What are the results?). Ever hear of people getting actual results in the last decade? Sometimes it really doesn’t pay to do anything with old information at least until you have seen and used what the current ‘ideas’ may be since they have a more recent track record. Then by all means use everything possible at your disposal. You never know.

With any business – offline they principally depend on foot traffic and maybe hard copy ads etc., to get the word out about their company and products. Online there is very many more inexpensive and even free ways to attract traffic to your website, affiliate web page, blog or wherever you are displaying your affiliate link.

The point is do not sit and do nothing while you wait for someone to magically discover your affiliate links. Remember there are millions of links on the Internet and unless you are doing sufficient advertising and marketing to get your pages ranked in the search engines and/or otherwise visible to people, it is not likely you are going to get far.

An online home business is on your terms but it is still a business and there is work to be done if you want to succeed!

Can You Write Content for Business?

Let me ask you another question. Can you talk? Well then you can write. If you have the ability to carry on a conversation whether verbal or email, etc, then you can write. It is that simple. Yet you see blog after blog that is completely blank or that hasn’t been used in months. This is a huge waste of free marketing and advertising. Why?

write on!

Why? Lazy? Busy? If you are really serious about having your own online business then you have to overcome lazy and busy. If you do, there will be no so-called ‘writer’s block’. You see writer’s block is just not having any ideas about what to write about. But no excuse there either because this is about your business – your experience with learning the ropes of an online business, what you are learning, what you like or don’t like about any particular aspect of Internet marketing; what you would change.

Best of all this is a golden opportunity to introduce people to your product or service. A blog is a perfect place to explain all of the features and benefits of becoming a member or buying a product. You can go into any details you want to about it from basics to more technical. If you don’t have a track record yourself yet, then you can still honestly give a review based on what others have said and be sure to ‘quote’ whoever it is.

There are a million things to write about in the world – just about everything that happens is worth writing about. However again with having a specific subject like an online home business you can even make a list of keywords that you build over time and then you can use them in the topic or subject lines of your document as well as throughout the text or content.

That is the easiest way to get started writing even if you start out with 5 keywords and you build to 10 or 20 and of course don’t forget to create ‘long-tailed’ keyword phrases. An example of this would be if your root key word is ‘home business’ then you can add to that, ‘online home business’, ‘building a successful home business’, ‘making money from home business’ – you get it – phrases that use the root keyword in some meaningful way.

Once you start being aware of this you will be surprised how often you are dragging out your notepad to add another phrase that you can use to write something. They can actually be the subject or topic and you build your composition around them. It’s a very easy way to learn to write well for your business.
