Your Vision for Your Online Business

Visualization of your goals can’t stop in your imagination. For goals to become reality you need to make a concerted action now and into the future. That means w-o-r-k to make it happen. There is no such thing as wealth without work. Day dreaming can be fun, but it can be counter-productive.

See It!
When we are not being logical or realistic or we have not really defined achievable goals, we can quickly become disenchanted when nothing works out as we thought it would. It is good to ‘aim high’ and ‘dream big’, but if we set unrealistic goals that may not be possible to achieve at this juncture, this can become discouraging.

This is sadly ironic if the person actually believed he could earn money instantly, without first building and developing a plan and then working it. Nothing will ever happen by magic or because we have a vision. It won’t happen unless we tune in to reality and do the work.

If you have never started a business before, there may be lots of false starts. Until we get real and create a plan with reasonable expectations, we are just wasting time and resources – ‘spinning our wheels’, never more than a wannabe. We need to make a commitment just as we would when we start a new job. I will show up and I will work to accomplish goals.

The key to success is to persevere. There will not be even a slim chance of accomplishing our goals if we give up and quit too soon. However, if we can just keep trying, even without seeing any tangible results, there is still a chance things will improve. You never know what is right around the corner so don’t miss it because you quit too soon. If we quit too soon without giving ourselves and the program a fair chance, we will never know what we might have achieved.

With all that said, everybody is not necessarily going to relate to this environment. We need to seriously admit that we do not like working online and do not want to do this — and then move on. There is no shame in this. Not everybody can ride a horse – or even wants to. What we all have in common either way is we need more money. We may as well find a way to earn an income that we enjoy and feel that we can succeed with.

Although it is important to take action while we feel inspired, it is super important to be logical about what we need to do and what we can realistically expect to achieve. If we can build on that, we will have the foundation for a profitable home business.

15 Things We Can Learn From Sir Richard Branson

You can fail and still succeed. In 1995 and 1998, Richard Branson and his team tried to be the first to circle the globe in a hot air balloon. They failed. But the publicity they received on both occasions for the Virgin Brand was priceless. Plus, we have to imagine they had fun, too.

Don’t take yourself too seriously. Rich, powerful, world-renowned – certainly someone like Richard Branson is careful to project a poised, professional image at all times, right? Nope. In 1996, Branson shaved his beard and donned a wedding dress and makeup to promote Virgin brides, his new wedding and bridalwear store.

If you’re going to compete with a big name, do something spectacular. In 1998, Branson drove a tank through Times Square and pretended to blow up a Coca-Cola sign to promote his own Virgin Cola. You can’t buy that kind of publicity.

Research and planning and pretty darn important. In 2007, Branson celebrated the first Virgin America flight by bungee jumping off a 407 foot tall building. But Branson and his team didn’t take into account that leaping off a building is NOT the same as jumping off a bridge or cliff. Branson crashed into the building twice and could have been seriously hurt or killed. Luckily, he only ripped his pants.

Pay off your losing bets, but still go for the last laugh. In 2013 Branson lost a bet with AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes over each company’s Formula 1 racing teams. Branson had to serve as a female fight attendant – complete with skirt, purse, mascara and pantyhose – for AirAsia’s airline. But Branson got the last laugh when he ‘accidentally’ spilled a tray of drinks on Fernandes’ lap.

When in ‘Rome,’ do as the Romans do. To promote Virgin Atlantic’s new routes in South Africa, Branson consulted the cultural center in Johannesburg before authentically dressing as a Zulu warrior and posing with the locals.

Do it in style. In 2004, Branson crossed the English Channel in an amphibious car, wearing a tuxedo. We wonder if he also had vodka martinis on the trip – shaken, not stirred.

Go viral. When Branson did an interview with Stephen Colbert, he splashed the talk show host with water from his mug and Colbert splashed back. The interview dissolved into both men laughing hysterically, and resulted in additional coverage, views and social media shares.

Don’t wait for others – make it happen yourself. While most people might wish Hollywood would cast them in a movie, Branson made his own movie and stared in it. The Casanova Gunslinger is a 20-minute live action movie, created by Virgin Mobile.

Test your idea. To start his new airline, Branson called Boeing and negotiated to rent one plane for a year, to see if his idea was viable.

Get inspiration from others. Branson has frequently cited non-fiction books as his inspiration for everything. For example, from Nelson Mandela Branson learned to let his vision guide him, instead of his fear.

If you’re going to do something, do it right. Virgin Records was burning cash and digging itself into debt. But Branson found a way to illegally avoid paying the 33% purchase tax. Customs eventually caught on to the scheme, and to avoid jail Branson had to pay back three times the amount not paid in taxes. He somehow managed to make the payments, and vowed to never do anything illegal again.

Be willing to do anything for your business. When Virgin announced it had flights to Scotland, Branson arrived at the press conference wearing a kilt and underwear that read, ‘Stiff Competition.’

Your past does not equal your future. Branson did poorly in school, still couldn’t read at the age of 8, and was described as hopeless in math and science. Yet now? He’s one of the richest people on the planet.

Frustration equals opportunity. When his flight to Puerto Rico was canceled, Branson charted a flight and sold seat to his fellow passengers, and Virgin Air was born.

Issues for Home Business Owners

When you notice things are taking a downturn you need to take action.

If you accept it when your business is going slowly or not going anywhere at all, then you are going to eventually have to accept that fact that your business failed. You don’t want to do that, do you? However it is true. There are no pixies that will come in the night and rescue you.

click it

It is your business, and your responsibility if you want to make it grow. Sometimes it may go on its own volition based on past action you may have taken to promote it. However more often than not if you do not pay attention to what you are doing it is just going to fizzle out and you will eventually just give up.

When you notice things are taking a downturn you need to take action. It is actually so critical that you do that it almost doesn’t matter what it is. If it has to be free, cheap, strange, whatever – you need to do something to get it going again.

There will be times like this where you really don’t have appreciable money to invest and this is when you need to get creative and even do tedious things like clicking schemes such as traffic exchanges. There are a ton you can join for free and earn advertising credits just by clicking and reading ads. It can get really boring – but if that is all you have going for you – go for it!

While banner exchanges and traffic exchanges typically have a rather low rate of conversion, it does not matter and should be employed if that is your only choice. There are also traffic exchanges where you can buy for example a $10 package of advertising credits so that your ad will be shown a certain number of times depending on their pricing. If you can do that it may help.

Again though if you have to click ads manually then be sure to reserve a certain number of hours to do this daily, and just do it. If you click 100 ads to get one person to read your ad and potentially become one customer, then you have done something positive for your business. There is even a chance that this person will also attract another customer and you know this is how a matrix is built.

Just don’t sit there, get clickin’!

What Makes a Business Successful

You might exclaim that it is profit! Certainly that is the object and does indicate whether or not the business is successful. However what all determines if the business even gets to that point? Some of the main components of success beyond the obvious things like a good product are mindset, focus and presentation.

positive mindset

There is really a lot to be said for the ‘spirit’ of things. This has to do with mindset and extends to the environment in the business. Is it bright and shiny? Or is it dark and dubious most days? It is obvious that if the atmosphere is one of positivity and hopefulness that it will carry the business a lot farther than if someone is skeptical and just has a negative attitude. This can be about the time, money or duties required to conduct the business.

A positive mindset is so important that steps should be taken to create a positive atmosphere no matter what is happening or not happening. Remember wherever you are focused, that is where you will likely end up. That is why it is so important that you force yourself to be in ‘a good mood’ about your life in general as well as your business. Do not allow yourself to get off into self-pity or create reasons that you know you will fail.

You can accomplish this positive mindset by doing mental exercises whenever you feel a dark cloud hovering over you. Truly know and believe that you can succeed. Do not look at what you can see, but look at what you might not be able to see YET. Focus on what you HOPE to attain and believe that you can accomplish it. Keep telling yourself about that over and over until you actually believe it.

Here is where it is important to keep your goals realistic. Certainly somebody who tells themselves they know they can make a million by Friday is going to be sorely disappointed. Keep it real. Give yourself goals that you can actually accomplish. Don’t be afraid to under-estimate. You can increase your goal each time you accomplish a benchmark.

Another very important component of having a successful business is to be focused on the tasks at hand. It can’t be a half-way thing where you kinda, sorta pay attention to business. Treat your business just like you would a job where you are accountable to someone. In fact you want to be the type of person who ‘exceeds expectations’ – don’t just do enough to get by but do more any time you have an extra 5-minutes to invest in your business. Learn what ‘proactive’ means and go there often.

Online Training – Open Your Mind and Learn All You Can

There is a saying that goes something like ‘the only people who can’t learn are those that think they already know’. This is really sad because this is just the type of person who actually does not know and will probably never know unless they get over themselves. It’s fine to have an agenda and of course we all need some kind of a plan going into anything new. However it must be fairly flexible since we are in unknown territory.

learn something!

We should humble ourselves and possibly condescend to at least see what the training has to offer. If you encounter a few points you may already have heard or even if you have had some previous experience, there is always something more you can learn. Word-for-word you may have heard it before, but at some point you may see it from a completely different perspective. You may realize that there are different, equally valuable ways to look at the same situation, thus increasing your strategies.

A huge number of people will avail themselves to everything that is offered for free, but who have no intention of taking it seriously. For example they just want anything that is free because it is free. This is also really sad because if they followed the directions they may be able to start something where they could really make some money in the future. Maybe because it is free they don’t put any value on it and they just let it vegetate.

In some cases they may have some information that is decades old and/or may be free. In either case, it may be very ineffectual, or limited; but they stick with that rather than to find out what the better, more successful options might be. Again the sad part is they do it because they want so to feel like they know what to do and are in control, rather than to humble themselves to learn something.

Someday they may wonder why they never made any money and more than a few will blame the program or product before they will look at themselves and realize they wasted what may have been a good opportunity because they couldn’t be bothered. Granted the whole idea to a lot of us is to have a home business so that we don’t have to take orders from anybody else or do things someone else’s way.

That is legitimate. However the point is you need to know how to do something before you do it, and the best way to do that is to take advantage of any training or advice given by an expert who has actually had success in the field.

You need to take the ‘recipe’ or ‘blue print’ and you can then build on that to make it your own design. It takes time – experience and some trial and error to develop a business. However you can lessen the errors and the time it takes to get on the right path if you will just let somebody help you get started.

Multiple Streams of Income – Mix it Up and Shake Well

In stock portfolios there are usually a combination of investments included to earn money. They ideally balance each other out more or less. Some vehicles are riskier (stocks) but can make (or lose) more money and some are more stable or less volatile (bonds) and therefore earn less. What usually drives the decisions made to develop the portfolio are whether you need to accept the higher risk to earn the most money, or whether you want to (and can afford to be) more conservative with less risk.

This is the same type of concept you should consider when developing a business with multiple streams of income. You should balance it out with some free programs, some inexpensive programs, and as you build your portfolio, you could add some programs that have the capacity to earn higher commissions. These higher-earning programs probably cost more to participate in. Sometimes you can make money quicker with one-time-only sales and to build your downline with free programs while you take the time to develop more permanent, long-term relationships with higher-value programs.

Another consideration is that although residual income is better for your bottom line than one-time-only sales, at the same time it is easier to make one-time-sales than it is to find people willing to make a long-term commitment for residual income. Residual income is income that you make after the initial sale, from that same transaction. For example when you refer someone to a program that has a monthly fee to participate, you usually would receive a percentage of that. One-time-only sales are just what they sound like. Each one has its good and bad points and therefore that is why you want to balance things out.

On the one hand you could say you might have to do less marketing and advertising with residual income as the one sale keeps generating income over time. However there is a great deal of turnover where people quit after a month or two or more, and you shouldn’t wait for that to happen before you start trying to find more sources of income.

On the other hand you can say since it takes longer to build residual income, it really works if you have some quicker sources of income to tide you over in the meantime, at least to cover your operating expenses. Some examples of these are survey programs (cash), clicking for credit programs (advertising), and selling tangible products for free affiliate programs like Amazon and Clickbank (cash).

Naturally if you can provide some services as well, this just adds to the many ways you might be earning money online. Examples of this are ghostwriting, doing SEO campaigns, posting to blogs, creating social network campaigns (ads, posting links, etc). If you really stop and think about it you can really have a nice mix of income sources which may be temporary or permanent depending on your preference.

Home Business – Being Prepared for the Unexpected

There is not one of us that knows what tomorrow will bring. Times are such that we absolutely can’t depend on much of anything for sure. What used to be security or safety is simply theoretical. We could lose our job, we could have a health emergency in our family, the stock market could crash, the car could break down, a fire could destroy our home. Any number of nightmares may become a reality. We just do not know who or when or why. We only need to realize it can and does happen every day and therefore it is really not wise to be in denial or say we will worry about it when the time comes.

Certainly sitting and worrying about it is not the answer. If we can try to prepare, though, we can relax a little bit knowing we have a plan for recovery or a ‘Plan B’. You may want to consider each of the above calamities and just create an overview of the ways you could try to protect yourself and your family. Naturally having some extra money would be the key to many of the ways we could survive through a crisis. It is really not so easy to save anything much though because it seems like as the cost of living rises exponentially, wages do not seem to keep pace anymore.

So it doesn’t seem like being able to put away $5 or $10 every payday will really amount to much even in a year; taking into consideration if you had to survive a crisis. Of course if you are fortunate to have good credit and one or more credit cards, one thing you could do is try not to use them and pay them down. You might as well put that $5 or $10 toward making a larger payment over the minimum due. That way you will have your credit line to fall back on in an emergency.

The other thing you can do is to start a business from home. You can easily do this in your spare time, evenings and weekends. Some people may feel that they need a year to even get something together to begin earning extra money. It may be true if you are thinking in terms of doing everything from scratch to build an online business. Nobody needs to do that. There are a plethora of applications and programs that do everything more or less for you, and you just need to learn how to do very basic things to get it running.

One of the quickest ways is to join an affiliate program. They will literally give you everything you need to get started technically and you could potentially begin to earn income quickly with some consistent effort to learn how and then to promote it online. There are programs that you can even join for free, but to be honest most of the time if you really want to earn real money you will need to upgrade. There are very reasonable fees and no contracts. Make an investment of your time and a small amount of money to get started BEFORE something happens so that you can feel safer knowing you are building income for any contingency.

Internet Marketing Strategy – The Problem with Done-For-You Techniques

The problem with having services done for us is if we think that is all there is to it. Folks want to believe they can just kick back and wait for traffic and sales. You should never wait or rely on any one thing. Unless ‘done-for-you’ guarantees actual paying customers; not free affiliates who may or may not ever upgrade; not traffic or visitors that may or may not do anything but leave tracks; not leads or prospects who sometimes have no idea how you got their information and are not interested.

All of the latter are definitely still possibilities and as such have some value; and definitely if you can afford a service that will help you with any of those resources, go for it. The problem is only when we believe we ‘got it covered’ and we don’t do anything else to promote our business. We rely on the service and it is maybe a form of denial that we want to believe we don’t have to do any work.

While it is true if you have money to invest in having services performed on your behalf, you would do less work, but you still need to be engaged in your business and doing everything you can to advertise and market your business.

There are actually things that have value in that respect that are free. They require more work than having services done for you, so if you have even more money to invest by all means have those things done for you also. They won’t be considered ‘free’ if you do this but the point is that everything possible is being done to develop business.

Unfortunately in the beginning we may just be naive. As such we don’t even know how to check if what we are paying for is even being done, let alone if it is having any result. Again a ‘result’ in Internet marketing is not necessarily a sale where there is tangible proof (money) that the service is working, although of course this is the ultimate goal. However as defined above, traffic, visitors, prospects, or any response short of a direct sale is still a positive result because it may become more eventually.

People really need to understand both that nothing will ever happen if we do nothing but wait and ‘imagine’, and that there are never any guarantees when it comes to advertising and marketing. In fact there are no guarantees of anything. Will your job still be there a week from now? You never know. Maybe it is likely, but there are no absolute guarantees. Not even a guarantee we will wake up tomorrow. So we need to make the most of everything that we have to work with at all times. If you do wake up, get to work! Make the most of it!

Home Business Strategy – Always Exercise Logic

No matter how good something sounds, you have to ask yourself if it is believable. It is not only about the speaker or writer and whether or not you find them believable, (trust them, respect them, etc.), but really more so about your interpretation of what they are saying (does it seem realistic?). In this regard, always remember to keep this little saying in mind: ‘If it sounds too good to be true it probably is’.

Just like ‘it is not what you say but how you say it’, it is really all about how you interpret and process information. Your logical mind tells you that people only earn money by doing honest work, but your denial tells you there is some magical process on the Internet that creates ‘wealth without work’. So that is why when people read something that may be interpreted in a few different ways, they will always opt for the one where they don’t need to do anything. Their sponsor, the program, or magic will do it for them.

Let’s look at an example. You read that Joe Rich will set you up in business and you can start making money in 24-hours, and all you do is pay a small one-time or monthly fee. Joe is not lying. You can START in 24-hours (as soon as he gets your account ready, etc.). Will you read that you will be making money in 24-hours?

If you think about that logically, you might ask yourself why, if that is really all there is to it, everybody is not making money on the Internet. Why are people still working at jobs when they can just sign up and start creating wealth while sipping umbrella drinks at the beach?

More than likely before you see a dime, you will need to start by learning what to do and how to promote your business — and then actually START doing it. Realistically you will need to KEEP doing it on a consistent basis (just like a job) in order to start driving traffic to your site. At that point some of the traffic may convert to sales. Whether or not it does you need to keep it up indefinitely.

It may actually be POSSIBLE to make money in 24-hours but that would be IF you had experience, and IF you had a list of existing customers or prospects that are already familiar with you (not random). This is not the same as buying a list of leads (random). Don’t worry about this going forward because you will begin to build and develop relationships. Those very same random people will not be random in just a few emails or interactions on a forum or social network.

This is not to discourage you from starting a home business – it is actually quite the contrary, and is to help prevent you from becoming discouraged when you realize you are not seeing any money after a couple days or weeks. Know that it is because this is only logical and that it is due to the fact that you have not done sufficient W-O-R-K to make it happen YET. Contrary to popular belief it is not to say Joe Rich is lying and just wants to steal your money, or that product, service or program is lousy or saturated.

Building an Online Business – What is the Value of ‘Free’

When you join many of the affiliate programs or independent distributor opportunities online, you will be given some resources to help you promote the product or service. These programs want you to succeed in selling for them so they are going to help you to a certain degree. These resources are very valuable to you if you are not technical and really don’t want to get all involved in development. You just want to earn commissions by advertising and marketing a decent product or service.

free offers

You could stand out by offering something free if they will subscribe to your messages or try the program you are promoting. You can get free reports and eBooks for example from different PLR (private label rights) programs (or write something yourself) and then offer it to them. People love to get free stuff. However sometimes you get ‘freebie seekers’ or ‘tire kickers’ – they really have no interest or sincere intention of doing anything, but they just want to get something – anything for free.

One thing people need when they are starting out is advice. So you could offer for example a 30 minute live chat where you could answer questions about your program which would have a two-fold purpose. One is to give them more information about the purchase they may make so that they feel more secure or confident in it; and the other is to build a relationship with them so that they will take your advice, for example to join a program in your downline and represent a commission for you.

You could offer to do a service for them – just anything that you have learned to do – research keywords for SEO and give them the report, write a sales article they can use on their blog, show them how to post to their blog or do it for them, create a Skidoo lense or HubPage for them, show them how to use it and post the first article for them. Anything you can do to help them take control of their own business could help you in many ways in the long-run. If it doesn’t result in a direct sale then if nothing else you earned some good karma for helping someone.

One of the most powerful things is ‘paying it forward’ – This really can work risk-free or you can accept the risk and realize it will be a business income tax deduction as are most things you pay for in the process of running your online business. You should really find out all the deductions you may be entitled to from your state and federal tax websites.

Let’s say the cost of what you are selling is $20 – and your commission for selling it is $10. You can offer to pay $10 for their first payment (making it 1/2 price for them). The bet is they stay in and the second month you get to keep your $10, and every month going forward. Chances are if you keep the relationship going by staying in contact, they will stay for a while, and subsequently each month you will receive the commission. This adds up at the end of the day.
